Art Spectrum® Ultramarine Blue is a brilliant blue. Like many colours, its name is Latin and translates as ‘Beyond the sea’.
Originally it was made from the milling of lapis lazuli. It was one of the most prized pigments used to great effect throughout the late Middle Ages and the Italian Renaissance, during which periods it was used extensively by monks in their illuminated manuscripts as well in panel and fresco paintings. In accordance with proven traditional methods of production, all Art Spectrum® Artists’ Watercolours are carefully stone milled to enhance the individual brilliance of each selected permanent pigment and to maximise its handling qualities. Successful watercolours depend on selecting the best quality paper, the permanence and brilliance of the pigments and the use of a wide variety of quality brushes.
Available in 10ml tubes. Series 1-4.
We do not recommend using Art Spectrum® Artists’ Watercolours as pans.
